Gas Ovens: What to Check Before You Buy
Short answer: when you search for a gas oven in Israel, you almost always find a freestanding range: a gas cooktop on top and an electric oven cavity below. An oven whose cavity is also heated by gas is rare in stores. What really matters is safety: a flame failure sensor on every burner, a strong 3–3.5 kW burner, and installation by a licensed gas technician. A model with 4 burners and 60 liters costs about ₪1,250–1,800 (NIS), a mid-range model about ₪2,300–3,200, and large De'Longhi models about ₪4,300–8,000.
This guide is based on product pages and price comparisons in Israeli stores in November 2026, and on an installation guide from a tradespeople website. We did not test the appliances physically, and we are not a substitute for a gas technician.
The short answer
Oven, November 2026- Gas cooktop + electric oven
- 3–3.5 kW (wok/turbo)
- Flame failure sensor on every burner
- Licensed gas technician only
- ₪1,250–1,800
- Israeli Standard SI 907 for gas cooktops

Price ranges seen in Israeli shops and price-comparison sites in November 2026, VAT included, usually without installation.
What to look at before buying
| What to check | What it is | Our recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Flame failure sensor | A component (usually a thermocouple) that shuts off the gas when the flame goes out, for example from a boil-over or wind. | Buy only a model whose spec says safety sensor on all burners. If the page does not say, ask the seller in writing. |
| Strong burner | The large burner, sometimes called wok or turbo, decides how fast you boil a large pot or sear. | Look for 3 kW or more. Per the spec, the Fujicom FJFSC75BK has a 3.5 kW wok burner. |
| Pan supports | The grates the pots sit on: enamel, cast iron, full-width or separate. | Cast iron is more stable for heavy pots. Continuous grates let you slide a pot between burners without lifting it. |
| Ignition | Built-in electric ignition in the knob or manual ignition. | Built-in ignition is almost standard. It needs an electrical outlet near the oven, for the cooktop too. |
| Oven cavity | On most models the cavity is electric, with convection, grill and top-bottom heat. | 60–65 liters with convection is enough for most families. Check the power draw and a suitable outlet. |
| Width | 60 cm on most models, 90 cm on models with 5 burners. | Measure the opening. 90 cm is worth it only if you have the space and cook a lot at once. |
| Importer and service | With a gas cooktop it matters that original spare parts are available: burners, igniters and sensors. | Choose a model marked as official importer or authorized dealer, and check who provides service in your area. |
Gas oven: what exactly runs on gas?
In most of what is sold in Israel as a gas oven, only the cooktop runs on gas, and the oven cavity is heated by electricity; an oven whose cavity is also heated by gas is rare in stores.
On price comparison sites, these appliances sit in a category called freestanding range with cooktop, and filtering by cooktop type shows several hundred models with gas cooktops. When you check the spec, you find the cavity is electric. For example, per the Electrolux LKK620200X spec, the cavity is heated by a 1,650-watt bottom element and a 1,650-watt grill, and the gas cooktop above it reaches a total output of 9,000 watts. One Fujicom FJFSC75BK listing explicitly says electric oven with gas cooktop.
Why does this matter to you?
- You need two connections: gas for the cooktop, and electricity for the oven cavity and ignition.
- More predictable baking: an electric cavity with convection keeps an even temperature, which is what most recipes assume.
- If the power goes out: you can usually light the gas burners with a match, but the oven itself will not work.
What about built-in gas cooktops? If you have a built-in oven and are looking only for a gas cooktop set into the counter, that is a different product. The safety and installation principles later in this guide apply to them too.
How to tell in a store whether the cavity runs on gas? Look in the spec for a field like oven type, heating element or oven electrical power. If an electrical power for the cavity is listed in watts, it is electric. If the spec is unclear, ask the seller in writing before ordering.
In this guide we focus on gas: safety, burners, installation and costs. If you want to compare freestanding ranges by Shabbat mode, capacity and programs, go to our freestanding range guide.
Why are there almost no ovens that bake with gas? In this guide we will not make a technical claim we did not see in a source, but the evidence on the ground is clear: on the common product pages we checked, none explicitly stated a gas-heated oven cavity, and several stated an electrical power for the cavity. If you see a listing for a full gas oven, ask the seller for the manufacturer's spec sheet, and also check that your technician knows the model, because installing a gas oven cavity requires additional ventilation and gas flow checks.
Safety: flame failure sensor and Israeli standard
The first thing to check in a gas oven is a flame failure sensor on all burners, which shuts off the gas if the flame went out; without such a sensor the gas keeps flowing.
How it works: next to each burner there is a small heat sensor, usually called a thermocouple. As long as there is a flame, the sensor is hot and keeps the valve open. When the flame goes out, for example when water boils over from the pot or a breeze from the window blows it out, the sensor cools and the valve closes. That is why on models with a sensor you need to hold the knob pressed for a few seconds after ignition, until the sensor warms up.
What we found on product pages:
- Sauter Rustic 7020 and Sauter Elegant 4780: safety sensors on all burners that shut off the gas when the flame goes out.
- Fujicom FJFSC75BK: the same wording, sensors on all burners.
- Electrolux LKK620200X: automatic gas shut-off and a safety shut-off mechanism.
- De'Longhi PRO 66 and DEMA965: safety sensors that cut off the burners in case of a leak, with no further detail.
- Beko FSE62120DXDSL: a sensor is not mentioned on the page.
Standard: per a guide on a tradespeople website, every gas cooktop sold in Israel must meet Israeli Standard SI 907 (Tav Teken 907). Ask the seller whether the model meets the standard, especially for parallel-import models (yevu makbil) or lesser-known brands.
In a home with children: a flame failure sensor is a must. In addition, make sure the main shut-off valve is accessible and that everyone in the household knows where it is.
Smell gas? Close the main gas valve, open windows, do not operate switches or electrical appliances, leave the apartment if the smell is strong, and call a gas technician or the gas company.
Installation: who connects a gas oven and what does it cost?
A range with a gas cooktop is connected only by a licensed gas technician with a valid license, and installation is usually not included in the oven's price.
Per a guide on a tradespeople website, gas cooktop installation must be done only by a certified, authorized gas technician holding a valid license from the Ministry of Labor. The technician:
- Connects the appliance to the gas line with a suitable flexible hose.
- Checks all connections for leaks.
- Checks that the flame is correct on all burners.
- Makes sure there is an accessible shut-off valve.
How much does it cost? There is no fixed price. Per the same guide, installation is usually not included in the cooktop price, and extra work like adapting the piping or installing safety valves can make it significantly more expensive. Ask for a detailed quote in advance, and ask whether your gas company's technician does the connection.
Central gas or cylinders: new buildings usually have gas through central piping, and private or older homes sometimes use cylinders. Tell the technician in advance which system you have.
Electricity: a gas oven also needs an outlet. The knob ignition is electric, and the oven cavity is electric. Per the Electrolux LKK620200X spec, the cavity's maximum electrical power is 2,650 watts. A regular 16 A outlet is usually enough, but it is better not to share it with a dishwasher or kettle.
Location: do not place a gas oven right next to a curtain or a window that opens above the cooktop. Leave space from upper cabinets per the manufacturer's instructions, and plan a range hood above the cooktop.
Replacing an old oven: do not use the old flexible hose just because it is still connected. Let the technician check whether it needs replacing.
Rented apartment: if you rent, check in the lease who is responsible for the gas installation and the cooktop. Even when you buy your own oven, the connection to the building's piping is done by a licensed technician, and it is worth keeping their invoice in case of a dispute with the landlord.
Burners: how much power do you need and what is a wok burner?
For regular home cooking four burners are enough, as long as one of them is strong, 3–3.5 kW, for large pots, a wok and searing.
What we saw in the specs:
- Fujicom FJFSC75BK: a 3.5 kW wok burner and a turbo burner.
- Electrolux LKK620200X: a 3 kW burner, total gas output 9,000 watts.
- Electrolux LKK660224K: a 3,200-watt double turbo burner, total output 9,000 watts.
- De'Longhi PRO 66: a turbo burner, with a booster for fast heating per one listing.
- De'Longhi DEMA965: 5 burners of different sizes including a turbo burner, 90 cm wide.
Wok or turbo burner: a burner with two or three flame rings, which spreads heat over a wider area. Suits a wok, deep frying and a big pot of soup for Shabbat. If you cook Asian food or fry a lot, this is the most important parameter.
Pan supports: on the De'Longhi PRO 66 and the Electrolux LKK620200X the supports are cast iron. They are heavier and more stable than thin enamel. Large pots wobble less on them.
Gas vs induction in power: induction cooktops boil water faster in most cases, because the energy goes directly into the pot. Gas gives you visual control of the flame and works with any pot, including a round-bottomed wok. We cover the comparison and the electrical requirements in our induction cooktop guide.
Cleaning burners: once a week take off the burner caps and clean them. A yellow or uneven flame is usually a sign of clogged holes. If it continues after cleaning, call a technician.
Which pot on which burner? A small pot on a large burner wastes gas and heats the handles. Match the pot's diameter to the flame size: the flame should stay under the bottom of the pot and not climb up the sides. Put a small coffee pot (finjan) or sauce pot on the small burner, and regular pots and pans on the medium ones. Save the strong burner for large pots, the wok and fast boiling. That way the sensors also work better, because a flame flaring around a small pot tends to go out when you move it.
Gas, electric or induction: which pays off more?
If you already have gas infrastructure and are not renovating, a range with a gas cooktop is the cheap, simple solution; if you are building a new kitchen, an induction cooktop with a built-in oven gives easier safety and cleaning, but needs electrical planning.
Gas, advantages:
- Works with any pot, including a wok and old aluminum pots.
- Immediate, visible control of the heat.
- The appliance is cheap: a range with a gas cooktop starts at about ₪1,170.
- In a power outage you can usually light the burners by hand.
Gas, disadvantages:
- You need a licensed technician, piping and checks.
- An open flame and combustion fumes in the kitchen, so a good range hood matters.
- Cleaning grates and burners takes longer than a glass surface.
Induction, advantages: a smooth surface that is easy to wipe, no flame, and usually faster heating.
Induction, disadvantages: you need suitable pots, electrical planning (single-phase or three-phase), and a higher total price once you add a built-in oven.
Running costs: gas and electricity prices change, and depend on the supplier and type of gas, so we will not present a general calculation. If cost matters to you, check on your last gas bill how much a cubic meter or kilo costs, and compare with the electricity rate.
What about Shabbat? In many Shabbat-observant homes in Israel, people leave a small flame under a hot plate or cover (blech). How to do this correctly is a halachic question, and at the same time a safety question: a flame failure sensor adds a layer of protection if the flame goes out during Shabbat. For the oven cavity itself, look for a certified Shabbat mode, as on the Sauter Elegant 4780. We cover this in our freestanding range guide.
How much does a gas oven cost in Israel?
A range with a 60 cm gas cooktop costs about ₪1,170–3,200 in Israel for most models, and large Italian or 90 cm models cost about ₪4,300–8,000.
What we saw on price comparison pages in November 2026:
- Midea 24DMS4G113: about ₪1,170–2,070.
- Fujicom FJFSC75BK: about ₪1,250–1,790.
- Beko FSE62120DXDSL: about ₪1,500–2,000.
- Electrolux LKK620200X: about ₪1,670–2,900.
- Sauter Elegant 4780: about ₪1,730–2,590.
- Sauter Rustic 7020: about ₪2,340–3,190.
- De'Longhi PRO 66 MXL PZ: about ₪4,290–5,490.
- De'Longhi DEMA965 (90 cm): about ₪5,660–8,040.
What else to include in the budget:
- Gas installation: a licensed technician. The price depends on the work; ask for a quote in advance.
- Flexible hose and valve: if the existing ones are old or unsuitable.
- Carrying up to your floor and removal: a range weighs tens of kilos. Check whether this is included.
- Range hood: if you do not have one, now is the time to add it.
Official importer: on the models we checked, some listings state an official importer (yevuan rasmi) or authorized dealer. For De'Longhi the importer per the listings is Newpan, for Midea Hamilton, and for Sauter one store says it is an authorized Electra dealer. With gas cooktops this matters especially, because igniters, sensors and burners should be original parts.
How to save without compromising safety: do not give up a sensor on every burner to save ₪200. Give up first on special baking programs, on stainless steel instead of painted, or on a 74-liter size if 60–65 is enough for you.
Watch the gaps between stores: on the Electrolux LKK620200X we saw a difference of more than ₪1,200 between the low and high price, and on the De'Longhi DEMA965 more than ₪2,300. Before ordering, make sure the model code is identical including the color suffix, that the seller states official importer, and that delivery and installation are detailed in the order. Online purchases are covered by Israel's transaction cancellation rules, but an appliance that has been installed and connected to gas may be excluded, so check dimensions before installation and not after.
How to choose a gas oven in 5 steps
Choosing a gas oven correctly starts with safety and dimensions, and only then burner power, capacity and price.
- Step 1, infrastructure: make sure there is a working gas point and an electrical outlet near the location. If not, arrange a gas technician and an electrician before buying.
- Step 2, dimensions: 60 cm for most kitchens, 90 cm if you have a wide opening. Also check depth, including the connection at the back.
- Step 3, safety: filter for models with a flame failure sensor on all burners only, and ask about Standard SI 907.
- Step 4, burners and cavity: a burner of 3 kW or more, stable pan supports, and a 60–65 liter cavity with convection.
- Step 5, importer and final price: official importer or authorized dealer, and a price including delivery and installation.
Examples by profile:
- Low budget and a wok burner: Fujicom FJFSC75BK.
- Safety and rustic design: Sauter Rustic 7020.
- Shabbat mode in the oven cavity: Sauter Elegant 4780 (covered in our freestanding range guide).
- Big cavity at regular width: De'Longhi PRO 66 MXL PZ.
- Large family and a 90 cm opening: De'Longhi DEMA965.
After installation: ask the technician to show you how to shut off the gas, check that each burner lights and stays lit after you release the knob, and keep the technician's details and the warranty certificate.
If you are still torn between gas and a built-in oven with a separate cooktop, read our built-in oven guide. And if your kitchen is small, it is also worth checking our best microwave guide, since a microwave can replace some of the oven's uses.

FAQ: gas oven Israel
Does a gas oven bake with gas?
On most models sold in Israel, no. The cooktop runs on gas and the oven cavity is electric. Per the Electrolux LKK620200X spec, for example, the cavity is heated by electric elements. Ovens with a gas-heated cavity are rare in stores.
Who installs a gas oven?
Only a licensed gas technician with a valid license. They connect the cooktop to the gas line, check for leaks and make sure the flame is correct. Do not connect it yourself.
What is a flame failure sensor?
A component next to each burner that shuts off the gas flow if the flame went out. Because of it you need to hold the knob pressed for a few seconds after ignition. Per the listings, the Sauter and Fujicom models in this guide have it on all burners.
How much does a gas oven cost?
Per store prices in November 2026, a range with a 60 cm gas cooktop costs about ₪1,170–3,200, and large De'Longhi models about ₪4,300–8,000. Installation is usually not included.
What is a wok burner?
A strong burner with several flame rings that spreads heat over a wide area. Suits a wok, frying and large pots. On the Fujicom FJFSC75BK it is 3.5 kW per the spec.
Gas oven or induction?
Gas is cheaper, works with any pot and suits an existing kitchen with gas infrastructure. Induction is easier to clean and has no flame, but needs suitable pots and electrical planning.
Does a gas oven need electricity?
Yes. The knob ignition is electric and the oven cavity is electric on most models. You need an outlet near the oven, preferably not shared with powerful appliances.
Is there a gas oven with a Shabbat mode?
On the Sauter Elegant 4780, a range with a gas cooktop, the listings state a Shabbat program approved by the Scientific-Technological Institute for Halacha. The Shabbat mode applies to the oven cavity, not the cooktop.
What standard must gas cooktops meet?
Per a guide on a tradespeople website, gas cooktops in Israel must meet Israeli Standard SI 907. Ask the seller, especially for a parallel-import product.
What do you do when you smell gas?
Close the main gas valve, open windows, do not operate switches or electrical appliances, leave if the smell is strong, and call a technician or the gas company.
